Short biography

Alvaro Cassinelli was born in Montevideo (Uruguay) in 1972. In 1990 he obtained both French and Uruguayan Bachelor degree, and a grant to pursue his studies in France. From 1993 to 1996 he attended the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications (ENST) and obtained an engineer diploma. In 1996 he completed a "Diplôme d'Etudes Approfondies" (Master degree) in physics (laser and matter interaction), and in 2000 he received a Ph.D degree from the University of Paris-XI, Orsay for his work on optoelectronic stochastic parallel processors for image processing.

Research interests

My current research interests lie in the area of the fundamental aspects of computing and their practical implementations (optics in computing, quantum computing, etc).Some other areas I am interested in -and want to know more- are artificial vision systems, image processing, optical telecommunications, robotics, and nanotechnologies.
